George Chatzigeorgiou

George Chatzigeorgiou is a Marine Biologist and member of the Special Technical and Scientific Staff at the Institute of Oceanography of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research. His research expertise includes marine biology, benthic ecology, taxonomy of benthic macrofauna, ecological assessment, non-indigenous species and biofouling. He has been involved in marine research at HCMR since 2004 and has participated in 22 research projects, with scientific responsibility in several projects focused on marine biodiversity, ecological monitoring and non-indigenous species. He has authored 42 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has extensive experience in field sampling, underwater research, taxonomic analysis and ecological data analysis.

Within the INVASIONS project, George will contribute to the design and implementation of field sampling campaigns, the processing of biological samples and the morphological identification of non-indigenous species, with particular expertise in benthic macrofauna and polychaetes. He will also contribute to data analysis, project meetings, dissemination activities and scientific publications.
