Christos Arvanitidis

Chief Executive Officer of LifeWatch ERIC; Research Director at HCMR

Christos Arvanitidis is Chief Executive Officer of LifeWatch ERIC and Research Director at the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture. He is former Head of the Biodiversity Laboratory, former Coordinator of the LifeWatchGreece Research Infrastructure, and former National Delegate to the LifeWatch ERIC General Assembly. His research focuses on marine biodiversity, biodiversity informatics, functional diversity and coastal ecosystems, with particular emphasis on biodiversity patterns across different levels of biological organisation and scales of observation. He has participated in more than 100 research and educational projects, coordinating 15, and has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications, including three monographs.

Within the INVASIONS project, Christos will contribute through LifeWatch ERIC to the development and implementation of the Virtual Research Environment (VRE) for NIS data analysis. LifeWatch ERIC leads Task 4.2, which involves the application and, where necessary, upgrading of the ARMS workflow and VRE for analysing conventional taxonomic and metabarcoding data, exploring univariate and multivariate patterns, and associating them with oceanographic and socioeconomic information. This work will support the execution of the VRE workflow on the final project datasets.
